Hi guys, as abit of a newbie this might sound like a wierd question to some of you but does my GTS have a speed restriction on it, it goes to 70mph no problem but soon as it gets to 72-73 I feel it pull back and slow down, or is this just the top speed? Cheers!

That's the top speed, you are hitting the rev limiter, well done!

Be aware the top speed of the venerable, heavier but more aero-dynamic X9 125 is a true 72 mph. Reads 80+ on the blurry speedo.

I'm used to heavier machines. The wind never bothered them. My last bike was a wing. As I live in the country 25 k's out of Thunder Bay, I have to go on the hwy a lot. And I'll tell you, the transports scare the dickens out of me. Those things blow my Vespa all over. Speed limit on the HWY here is 90 kilometers (55 mph). 55 mph is a good speed for me. To do 70 mph on a Vespa, your thingamabobs are bigger than mine.

I can't begin to imagine how dull a HWY limit of 55mph might be. Even on our back-roads the limit is 60 - and on most of those roads you'd be doing well to do more than 50 if you were a speedway rider!

No wonder the drivers there take to cooking meals, giving themselves haircuts, or having sex while snailing along.

Vespa GTS 125 ie top speed

The German magazine "Scooter & Sport" measured the GTS 125 ie with a top speed of 103.1 km/h, e.g. 64.06 mph.

The speedo showed 112 km/h at top speed (69.59 mph).

I think that's really fast for a 125 cc scooter.

Speedos are optimistic
Measuring by GPS device is more accurate.

I reached 60mph (by GPS) on my 125 nonsuper, but I didn't hit the rev limiter yet.

But don't get fooled... they certainly can reach over 100km/h, but forget it when riding uphill... even the slighest slope slows you down quite considerably. You'll need bigger engine to cope with hills.

I think the only way to find out is by getting my dad to drive my car behind me to see what speed i reach!

Aye, that's about right for me, though it doesnt scale like I think it should. i.e. If I'm doing 35 on the speedo - GPS reckons 30, 60 on the clock - GPS say 55 (57 has been top trump so far and that was on a slight decline).

PS Tom - are you running any sort of windshield?

Yeah, I have a full large windshield and from what I read here, it makes a difference, might add 1/2 MPH on
As for exhausts, I was suprised when I got a Vespa, just how much these are! For my ET4, New Scorp exhausts are £2/300 and from what I read, it's not really worth it! Can pickup secondhand ones on eBay quite readily though, just have to keep your eyes open!
